You – Caroline Kepnes

Title: Youyou

Pages: 422
Category: 33. Read a book in the thriller or suspense genre
Format: Paper

This book is like some weird combination of Gone Girl and 500 Days of Summer. As soon as you read the blurb it’s clear that the book is not going to have a happy ending for one or all of the characters.

The book is written by the male narrator who meets the object of his affection Beck while he’s at work. She starts flirting with him and she likes books like he does and it all snowballs from there. It’s part romance part stalker fiction. It’s clear early on that Joe tends to take things just a little bit far reading Beck’s email and checking out her house but it only gets weirder from there.

It’s masterful in it’s combination of genres and I’m torn between wanting to read the next book or to enjoy this as a standalone.

Rating: 4/5 stars

    1. Hey James. It’s such a different way to tell it, especially for someone like me who literally grew up watching shows like SVU and later Bones. It’s so strange but also interesting to read it from a different perspective. I read one other book told from a similar perspective years ago that I loved but this was much better. Are you planning to check out the sequel?

      1. Hi. Yes, I read ‘Hidden Bodies.’ It was a good read, but not as well-written as you, nor in the same style. Ultimately, I am not sure it was the best idea to have sequel. I’ve heard there may be a third, and there is a TV series coming to network TV soon.
